What is Photography to Me?

Photography is a rewarding and creative hobby that allows me to capture moments, express emotions, and tell stories from my adventures and travels. It encourages people to go out and explore the world around them as well, even sharpening their observation and cultivating patience and attention to detail. In today’s photography, editing is another valuable skill to have, as it enables photographers to enhance their images, correct imperfections, and adapt photos for various platforms and purposes. Whether it's for social media, professional portfolios, or personal keepsakes, editing helps transform a good photo into a stunning one, making it a powerful tool for artistic expression.

I fell in love with photography during the COVID year back in 2020, going on hikes, trying to escape quarantine, and test out my very first camera, similar to what most of my photography colleagues use as their first-ever camera, the Canon Rebel T1i camera that my dad had given me. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with it. I offered friends free shoots, and also invited them to come out with their camera gear to do fun photography projects. Our goal was to get our names out there and potentially create a buisness to find more photographers just like us. With a lot of time and practice, I got a few clients wanting some college grad photos. Along with that, I worked with the social media team on the UCI rowing team. Eventually, TRC (The Rowing Channel) reached out to me and offered me a position to work for them at a few Rowing regattas after seeing our rowing media page on our Instagram. With all these opportunities piling up, I was able to build a progressing profile and buisness with people by offering them their best captured moments of their graduation, Rowing tournaments, and photos of their liking at their favorite places, while also further expanding my photography page.
